Thorns protect, wings set you free.

Every wound can trigger a new flight.

In a world where thorns are sharp and wings are fragile, pain and lightness come together.

Life is a game of contrasts, where disappearance becomes the sign of new birth.

Thorns and Wings” is a metaphor for nature itself: delicate yet dangerous, fragile yet strong, longing to fly but also fighting for survival. Birth always comes with effort: a leaf pushes through a thorn, a wing breaks free from a cocoon, and life finds a way even in a dry flower.

In Masha Orlovich’s artworks, wings and flowers become symbols of harmony. Using complex printmaking techniques, she captures the lightness of nature - reminding us that life is born in silence and light, if we know how to listen.

Masha finds beauty in the combination of the worlds of flora and fauna, where the full splendor of nature is revealed. As she wrote in her early youth:

"I am a tree from soil below,

A flower warmed by winds that blow.

A butterfly with quiet wings,

I drift above eternal things.

Through every birth my path is spun,

To learn the secret life has won.”

Tenno Sooster’s series grows from childhood memories of an Estonian farm, where every dragonfly’s flutter and every ant’s track seemed like a secret sign. Later, he discovered old entomology books from the 18th and 19th centuries, where insects and plants appeared as conscious beings from other worlds. Like a scientist with a microscope, Tenno observes Israel’s fauna. He captures tiny movements while knowing that humans are torn between the desire to preserve and the urge to destroy what they study. In his works, sometimes one creature carries the embryo of another creature - as if life hides its own continuation within itself.

Together, the artists create a space where thorns and wings do not oppose each other, but dance together - like birth and disappearance, pain and beauty, protection and freedom. This is an exhibition about how life always continues to resonate, even among the thorns.

She has presented 20 solo exhibitions worldwide, and her pieces are held in museums in Israel, Europe, and the U.S., as well as in many private collections, including those of Maxim Vengerov and Daniel Barenboim. In 2021, she received the Award of Excellence in Printmaking at the “Enter into Art exhibition in Königswinter, Germany.

Her free, impressionistic style combines virtuoso painting with abstract splashes of color inspired by the Paris School, creating a dynamic and expressive visual experience.

Tenno Sooster
Tenno Sooster

Tenno Sooster was born in 1957 in Moscow. He worked on more than 30 animated films at the “Soyuzmultfilm” studio. Since 1990, he has lived in Israel. He is a member of the Estonian Artists’ Union and head of the Graphic Workshop at the Tel Aviv Artists’ House, where he also teaches printmaking. Tenno has held eight solo exhibitions in Israel, Estonia, and Russia, his works are found in numerous private collections worldwide.

After many years as an animator, Tenno felt a strong need to return to traditional, tangible materials. That is how he came to easel graphics. The word ‘easel’ refers to the stand for creating large-format works in a variety of  techniques:ink, pencil, gouache, collages, assemblages and even airbrushing. Later, the artist became fascinated with printmaking, especially etching, which introduced another kind of stand - the printing press.

All these practices together formed a polyphony of techniques and surprising combinations within classical disciplines. Together with his paradoxical view of art, politics and life, as well as a generous dose of black humor - all this makes his artworks distinctive and recognizable.
